Mission:

To build a partnership between Pittsburgh,PA and Syria through the start of a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life of refugees in countries neighboring Syria.

Description:

The Pittsburgh-Syria Partnership for Refugees is a two-fold project involving the development of a sustainable charitable non-profit organization that seeks to raise awareness in Pittsburgh and develop a fundraising structure to aide Syrian refugees in countries neighboring Syria. Obtaining a 501C3 non-profit status is essential to gaining legitimacy, accountability, and sustainability as an organization that raises funds. Within the period of time that it takes to obtain a 501C3 status(generally 2 months to upwards of a year), the project can implement the awareness campaign aspect through community involvement such as rallying, hosting lectures, and public art. Through these events, monetary and in-kind donations can be solicited. This project would target young professionals, those of Syrian decent, and business organizations. It would also leverage the abundant number of universities in the Pittsburgh area.Unlike large charitable non-profit organizations, this project would facilitate raising awareness locally as an initial and fundamental step toward fundraising and other good works. Because of the local demographic, this project would have a concentrated span rather than a wide span of interest. Focusing on the local community will allow for a measurable impact that would have the potential to be expanded to other cities once the model is developed. Individuals who have skills that could assist in both the awareness and fundraising aspect of this project, such as non-profit start up, event planning, fundraising, and marketing, community involvement, grant writing, and project management, would be indispensable assets.
